root of anti semitism

According to the anti defamation league, we are seeing an uprise in attacks against Jews in the United States.

Is this new? Rabbi Goldstein from the Poway Lubavitch shul is in a state of shock and its natural for him to have those feelings. Moreover, sadly, Jew hatred has always been around. Perhaps with media coverage and communication, we are more aware of it. Our prayer books are full of stories of bloodshed throughout our history. I had my own taste of the ugly head of anti semitism and I share my story below.

When I was a child putting up posters for dov hikind on 13th avenue and 49th Street, on or about 1975, I noticed a police car cruising on the avenue until 12:30 am and then it was gone .

In the meantime, me, my brother and about 15 other Jewish guys were busy putting up flyers for the dov hikind campaign.  Out of no where a grey lincoln town car pulled up with two Italians in the vehicle and one said to us, "what the f...ck  are you doing?" One brazen youth says to him, "none of your f...kin business."  The Italian guy says, "what the f..k you said?" The vehicle then sped off.

Then hero Dov Hikind says, "we have baseball bats, we can attack them if they come back. When they did come back, everyone and I mean everyone, scattered. My brother and I were hiding below a parked vehicle by its tire and I heard the Italian guy say, We are going to kill you F....kin Jews." They then sped off. A minute went by and two chassidim passed by in a station wagon and showed us bullet holes in the back of their vehicle.

I was afraid to walk the streets of New York for two weeks.

So where is the root of Anti Semitism? It is mentioned in the Torah as noted by Rashi who quotes Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, she'Eisav sonei Le'Yakov." Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai says it is the law, that Esau hates Jacob. See Rashi at Genesis 33:4.  So what is the way to combat this hatred? With Gematria,we have a clue. The gematria of this phrase is 1245. Another phrase with the same number can be found at Psalms 96:3, where it says, "Declare His glory among the nations, His wonder amongst all the peoples. The nations of the world falsely complain that the Jews have all the power. We must explain to them that all the power in the world comes from the Maker of heaven and earth.         
 Another way combating hate is teaching our children to respect fellow human beings. We see this from the difference between hate (sonei-357) and love (ahava 13) and that word is bin'urav-344, or in his youth. We must inculcate children that it is wrong to hate people.
